We are getting ready for the big SPRING push!
FARM NEWS!
The germination box is being heated up right now! The greenhouse temperature is going from 45 degrees to 70 degrees. The first sage and oregano will be planted this week for spring sales. Kale and Chard are being seeded for field planting in April. The cherry tomato plants are seeded for transplanting in the tunnels by April 15. Remember how sweet and delicious those cherry tomatoes were in the summer months! Can’t wait!
These are the exciting things happening right now. Some of the more mundane things- picking lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, carrots, radishes, bok choi, and beets every week for market is still on-going. We are also planting leaf lettuce, radishes, arugula, and mizuna in the tunnels for April sales. Before the end of February we will have planted baby carrots, radishes, leaf spinach and bunching onions in the tunnels for for mid-May markets.
There are still some repairs that are lingering and fix-up projects to do. Pruning has been started. Raspberries, gooseberries, grapes, currants, and elderberries are done. Red raspberries, blueberries and all the trees – peaches, plums, pears, nectarines will be started in March.
The pork and sausage farming is doing well. We are gearing up for summer grillers and great bacon. We also have broilers growing throughout the winter months. We should be butchering another batch of broilers in the next couple of weeks.
