CSA Policies, Plans, Sizes of shares, and Vacations
A CSA helps the community by providing fresh, local produce to shareholders. A CSA also helps the farmer by guaranteeing a market for the fresh fruits and vegetables, and helps to provide income during the lean months – January, February, March and April.
Participating in a CSA requires TRUST. -the shareholder trusts the farmer to do his best at growing fruits and vegetables throughout the season. -the farmer trusts the shareholder to pick up the fresh vegetables and fruits and to use them in a timely manner so that they retain their great taste and nutritional value. |
Participating in a CSA requires COMMUNICATION. -the shareholder communicates with the farmer when produce and fruits are not worthy. -the farmer communicates with the shareholder when produce and fruit have experienced rough conditions and are sub-par. |
Participating in a CSA requires UNDERSTANDING. -the shareholder is understanding when fruits and vegetables do not grow as planned. -the farmer is understanding when the shareholder is disappointed with the shares and tries to make amends by providing another product that is abundant. |
Farmers and Shareholders have equally bad times: scheduling difficulties, last minute disasters, weather problems, insect infestations and unforeseen circumstances. The CSA can work very well when each member can put himself in the other one’s place.
