Dear Folks,

We had 6 winners out of 14 possible winners on the eggplant contest.  This means that 6 out of 14 folks actually read the email about the eggplant contest.  That is not too bad!  43% of you read the emails that you get from us.

So - next contest.  We did this last session and we had several winners.

This is a kind of contest that EVERYONE CAN BE A WINNER!  Get a friend or neighbor or office mate to sign up for a Fall or Extended Fall session CSA and you will get $20 to spend on the online store.

Remember to get your friend to WRITE your name on the sign up page with the question - "Who recommended our CSA?"  Only new CSA subscriptions will qualify.  If you would rather have a $20 credit toward either the Fall session or the Extended fall session, please send me an email and I can arrange that.

The Extended Fall session is NOT included in the regular Early Bird Special.  So you will need to sign up for it separately.  Thanks to folks who have already signed up.  Just a note about the Extended Fall Session.

All the FRIDAY DELIVERIES WILL SWItCH TO WEDNESDAY DELIVIERIES ONLY FOR THE EXTENDED FALL SESSION WHICH BEGINS OCTOBER 26.

Let me know if you have any questions about the Extended Fall or the Fall session.  We only have two more weeks of the summer session.

The summer has really flown by.

The Fall session begins on September 7 and runs through October 24.

SIGN up now do not wait until you missed the first week.

Some folks were having trouble with the sign up.  You are already in the season, you just want to make changes to the member types.  Look for this prompt at the top of the first page.

This week's shares will include:

Full and Half

Eggplant

Potatoes

Bell peppers

Tomatoes - large and cherry

Mystery item

Nectarines

Ginger Gold apples

Personal shares:

Ginger Gold apples

tomatoes

potatoes

sweet Candy onions

eggplant

Eggplant is very versatile - use it grilled (It is excellent with balsamic vinegar).  We love it fried.  (Not as healthy, but SOOO good!)

Tomatoes are everywhere. Enjoy them now.  The heirloom tomatoes have only got about two-three more weeks!  Enjoy their delicious variety of taste.  I love the green ones (Aunt Rubies), the pineapples (yellow with some red) and the yellow Brandywines for sandwiches.  For a great acid tomato - Red and pink Brandywines are great!  Hillbillies are also a great choice.  If you would like to know a variety - just send us a picture of your tomato.

The nectarines are very sweet and delicious.  I love eating them, but you will probably need to eat them over a trash can or with a napkin - They are so juicy.

Ginger Gold is a great early sweet apple.  It is just a reminder that we are on the latter end of summer.

Enjoy the great fruits and vegetables this week.  Use your CSA shares as  meal starters.

We do still have second peaches and second tomatoes available for purchase in half bushels.  These are soft or bruised.  You can order from the store.  Remember theses seconds need to be canned or processed immediately!
