Farm News – Spring – 2022 Orchard Country Produce

THE big SPRING rush is here!
FARM NEWS!

The greenhouse is filling up with lots of plants.  The kale and chard will go into the field in the next three weeks.  The first snap peas are in the ground and under row cover.  The first lettuce will go into the field on April 1.  We will be planting the first spring onions and new potatoes, hopefully this week as well.
The pruning of peach, plum, nectarine and pear t\trees is still ongoing.  We are almost finished pruning the berries for the spring.
We are still harvesting lettuce, beets, spinach kale, bok choi, radishes, and chard from the tunnels.  We are still planting short season crops for the tunnels for April and May – mainly radishes , turnips, and spinach.
This is always the busiest time of year.  So much seeding, preparing the ground, pruning, potting up for plant sales and general maintenance that did not get dune during the winter.
We will be getting our third batch of broiler chicks next week and we are have some new litters of pigs in the barn.
